Black in your colour scheme

Black is useful for outlined details, dark frames and undercoats that show through a lighter distressed top layer. Its ultra-matt finish keeps the emphasis on shape and texture.

Build the finish in layers

Work on a clean, dry surface and use the paint without added water. Cadence prefers 6–12 hours between coats, depending on conditions, and recommends sanding between layers to develop the characteristic finish. Always test the technique on a sample first.

Protect the finished piece

Choose a compatible velvet-matt varnish or wax to finish the paintwork. For very glossy ceramics, plastic or metal, follow Cadence’s primer guidance before painting.

Remove grease, dust and loose material before painting. Let each coat dry naturally and follow the label for your surface. Keep the lid tightly closed and wash tools with soap and water before the paint dries.
